Growing Pains

He just asked if he could throw it away.

huh? I wasn't prepared for this--even though months earlier I wished it would have been that easy.

He used to have it every night and we'd have to hide it during the day.

Then he only had it for naps even though we joked he'd have it all day if we let him.

We'd hide it so he couldn't get to it. Threatened to throw it away if he used it any other time but naptime.

Now he just asks if he could throw it away??

Yep folks. Tonight Hayes threw his Binkie away. HIS BINKIE. The boy that steals binkies from unsuspecting newborns. The boy that hides in corners to suck on a binkie, hoping we don't catch him. The boy that will take a nap just so he can have his binkie! He just asked if he could throw it away.

Had this happened a year eariler I would have praised the world. YES!
Tonight..Bracken told him yes. And my mind was racing...wait what? are you sure? Hayes, aren't you going to cry? You need that binkie. Your still a baby. You don't understand you'll never see it again.

He just threw it away and said "On tuesday the garbage truck will come and SMASH it down!"

Then I realized. I'm not ready for him to grow up! Ahhh!!! This is throwing away a binkie and I'm getting emotional. I'm going to be a wreck when it comes time for kindergarten, his first date, and I don't even want to mention leaving on his mission.

Growing Pains took on a new meaning for me tonight. It's not just for the kids. But for a mom's heart as well!

Step into my Office

Yesterday I was sitting at the table, I don't remember what I was doing but obviously I was looking pretty lazy. Hayes came out of the master bedroom.

Hayes: Mom, come step into my office.

Me: umm ok? where might your office be?

Hayes: Here (pointing into my bedroom)

This intrigued me, his office? where did he get that from.

So I stepped in.

Me: What do you do in your office?

Hayes: Mom you clean this up while I jump on the bed. Then wash the walls, while I do this and this.

Seriously?? Now not only do I clean up after his messes but now he has an "Office" and authority to tell me to clean while he jumps on MY bed? funny kid. I did end up letting him jump on the bed while I finished laughing. Then I went back to sitting at the table being lazy.

I'll clean up the mess in the bedroom later.
When I'm not told to...
I have authority issues too you know.
