Wetsuit Easter BBQ...odd title but that was my day.

I tried on a wetsuit today to rent for my triathlon in two weeks.  If I hadn't already gone running I would have counted it as my workout for the day. It was so stinking hot in the store and when I finally managed to shimmy into the thing I realized the zipper in the back wasn't started so I had to take it all off, start the zipper and put it all back on again. Whew, I might just wear myself out trying to get that thing off I won't make it to the bike and running portion of the race.

After I was done running today I told the kids I thought I saw the Easter Bunny in the backyard.  They raced outside and found all the eggs he had hidden.  Some of the eggs even had money in them. Hayes got $1.42 and Kamri got $1.24 At one point there were only two eggs left and Kamri practically stuck her hand on one but wasn't looking, it took them forever to find them!  Every Easter (ok every holiday for that matter) I start to feel like a slacker mother because I don't go all out crafty and cute for the holiday preparations but my kids reactions at just the simple things I do make me realize it's okay. Not that I shouldn't try better next year, but I'm glad my kids are accepting of my small attempts of holiday fun. (or at least don't know any better yet!)

We went to a BBQ that was the end of year social for the SOA (moot court) group Bracken is a part of at law school.  Family was invited but we got a babysitter since not very many people have kids (last year we took Lyla and she was the only child there). We are definitely an anomaly having three kids while in law school.  It was nice to not have to chase kids and the kids loved having babysitter Emily come over and do crafts with them. Win-Win for all.

I get caught up feeling like I haven't done "enough" holiday celebrating too. But lately I've realized that I never really had that growing up and I STILL remember feeling like holidays were very, very magical.

I'm starting (4 kids later...sheesh...can we say slow learner) that kids don't need much. They carry their own magic. They just want us to acknowledge it and experience it with them.

I totally agree with Emilie - kids really do have their own magic, and it sparkles out in their expressions. You are so good at celebrating the moments with your kids - - loved the wetsuit experience, it must have been a child size suit!
