More Pictures & an Update on Dane

I hope we'll have many more positive updates to put up in the months to come. It makes me sad thinking that Hayes & Kamri probably won't meet their sibling until he is a few months old...but I guess by then he will be the size of a normal baby so it won't seem that different to them. Anyway. I'm going to go to bed but I promised pictures and an update so here is part of an e-mail that Bracken sent out to our siblings tonight. He explains it alot better than I would have :)
"The doctors did tests today on Dane's brain, heart, and lungs. The brain had some bleeding as expected but the doctor said it was a "grade 1" which is the best it can be if there is bleeding. They are going to do the same tests on his brain in 2-3 days to see how it is progressing, i.e. if the blood is coagulating on its own or if it continues to bleed. Next to the result of absolutely no bleeding, this was the best we could have received. Having seen his head and hearing the doctors always focus on the bruising, I was very worried there would be severe bleeding and the doctors were just not giving their opinion until they new more (why freak out the parent before you know?). Either way, we are grateful for the results and will be praying until the next test (this will probably be the beginning of a long pattern...).
The test on the heart was similar, the next best thing to a perfect answer. The little flap thingy (how's that for scientific?) that normally closes on newborns when they arrive often does not close with premature babies. (Anyone who knows more about what I'm talking about is welcome to elaborate/clarify/or downright correct me. hint hint Kristin). Dane's flapper (not sure of the name) is doing just that: flapping. The doctor said that it was closing and then reopening over and over. They are going to give him 2-3 days to see if it finally decides to close on its own. If it doesn't then they will have to give him some medicine to help it along.
The lungs looked "pretty good." There was nothing worrisome about them but they still have to progress as normal. Also, they gave him a blood transfusion tonight. They told us first thing yesterday to not worry when we hear that because it would inevitably happen. With such small bodies, a little swing in blood count makes a big difference. They didn't seemed too worried about it, so I won't be either."

Thanks again for all the prayers and words of encouragement. Bracken and I have been truely blessed to have little Dane in our lives. We'll keep you all updated.

It sounds like things are going about as well as they can be given the circumstances. He looks so tiny and so sweet. I wish we lived closer so we could help out with watching kids and what not. We will keep praying for Dane and your family.

Skye and Bracken, you are definitely in my thoughts, often. The flood of flashbacks that have come in the last few days makes my heart go out to you...Hang on for the roller coaster ride that has just begun. I know that a loving Heavenly Father is with you every day and will not leave you to make decisions on your own!!! Dane looks like one handsome baby!! Congratulations on having such a cute little guy!!

Skye - you look great & little Dane sure looks precious. He's a blessed little boy to come to such a great family. He is already well-loved! I had to laugh - on my way to the hospital I was racing my brain thinking of all the things I should have brought for you to do while you were resting. The only thing I had in the car was my collection of Jack Johnson CD's- I thought of offering it but figured that was kind-of off-the-wall. After reading your profile, maybe I should have offered!

Skye, sorry to hear about your early delivery. I can't imagine all that your little family is going through. Your petite man is very sweet. It is amazing what they can do with all the technology these days. I have a niece who was born at 25 weeks she is perfectly healthy. I remember those first few weeks that she was born it was stressful. FYI I am Lindsey's sister I blog surfing and saw your blog, you have such a beautiful family are prayers and thought s will be with you.

You really don't know me but I married Scott who is Dory's son. Anyway, Mom called and we have been praying for your family. I can't imagine trying to care for children at home and at the hospital. We wish your family the best and will continue our prayers.

Hey, I'm glad to hear that Dane is doing okay for now. If you are still curious, the heart thing is called a patent foramen ovale. Basically it is an opening between the two atria that is normally present before birth, and then closes at birth. It's a fairly common problem for it to stay open, so I hope that it doesn't worry you too much. Good luck with everything, and you are in my thoughts!
