Why Mothers are always suspicious

A few days ago, after we ate lunch Hayes ran out the sliding glass door to play in the backyard.

Not unusual.

I cleaned up and he came inside and asked if he could have a cookie. I said sure but let's get you dressed first (yes still in PJ's at lunchtime i know..)
So we go in the bedroom and I'm thinking to myself.

It smells like poo...why does our room stink??

Hayes tells me he wants to keep his underwear on.

(Suspicious mom radar should be turned on because of the last two parts of the conversation but no...I guess I'm still a rookie.)

I'm looking around for a dirty diaper that somehow i missed throwing away?

Hayes has a little smirk on his face, and then I jokingly go to smell his bum.

He's laughing and I'm still trying to figure out where that smell is coming from.

I know you're all thinking CHECK HIS UNDERWEAR! He Pooped his pants!!

I'm realizing that there is no dirty diaper anywhere and that smirk has to mean something, so as I'm helping him step into his pants I checked his underwear and there is some major skid!

Hayes realizes he's caught and yells, in a proud voice in fact,

I POOPED IN THE BACKYARD!!!

Sick out!

And as I'm telling him how we defecate in the toilet and not outside (ok I didn't use the word defecate, but it's a funny word, I should have!) I was trying to think of a fitting punishment.

Hayes you aren't suppose to poop outside and you're going to have to clean it up!

His response?

"COOL!!"

So apparently not only do I need to work on my suspicious skills but my punishment skills as well.

Boys! Nixon is having a hard time with the "poop in the potty" too. He seems to like to fill his pants and then dump it in the toliet. AHHHHH!!!

I know that potty training will seem so funny when these boys are grown up, but I'm NOT laughing now. :)

My son has also done that trick! Boys and using the bathroom outdoors--what gives?

Don't ya just love it when things backfire? For me I say, "You need to finish your food or you're going to bed right now. Do you want to go to bed?" I get a "yes" instead of an expected "no!" What?! It's not supposed to happen like that! Isn't motherhood fun? Good luck.

hahah!! Love it! You just have to remind him that it's ok to go outside....just not in the backyard! Every kid has to do it sometime!! :)

OK I was laughing so hard at this story. Not unusual in this house to not ever get dressed. Ha We need to get together soon.
