Magazines and Bike rides
I signed up for a National Geographic subscription awhile ago because it was only $10 and I always thought it would cost way more. The rational there is a little flawed but that's not the point of this post. I signed the subscription up as Hayes and Kamri because they love getting mail. The uninteneded result is that we now get a lot of junk mail for a "Hayes and Kamri" and my kids are ecstatic they are getting mail but disappointed when it is just a form letter for ordering Omaha steaks. Although, Kamri was very excited for the Disney credit card offer because it came with a fake Minnie mouse card.
I haven't decided if I am annoyed by my kids names & address being sold (since that is another reason the subscription could be so cheap) but it has made me decide that I am going to use a different middle name any time I sign up for something just so I can track what companies they sold it to. A waste of time, yes. But I am entertained by lame things like that....in other words, a bit of a nerd.
Today was the first day of the summer bike rides. We do a four-mile bike ride with a bunch of other kids and few adults. I think today there was about 30 of us. It's a built crazy at times but fun. Kamri holds up the rear wi me helping her. It is so fun to see the older kids come down from the waiting "checkpoint" to cheer her on. They may just be doing it because they can't leave until she gets there but I think it is because they are excited for her to accomplish it. Every time there are words of encouragement between different kids as they make it up a tough hill or racing each other to another checkpoint. It is a beautiful thing to see.
And just so you can't accuse me of painting a completely rosy picture of the rides, there are also times that I wonder why I take my kids because all it seems to be is torture for them and a hard lesson of patience for me.
The kids also got to swim twice today. Summer is fun.
My favorite line today was after the bike ride a man that works for the city came and talked to the group about bike safety. After talking about always wearing a helmet when you are on your bike he went on to showing different parts of the bike. During his spiel he got on his bike to engage the brakes and Hayes promptly yelled out "Arent't you suppose to be wearing your helmet?!" Hayes wasn't trying to be funny but we all had a laugh at the mans expense as he blubbered through a response.
