Bracken's parents are amazing and drove our car with our kids up to their house after graduation on Friday after we all went to lunch. Bracken and I then went to the Mob Museum. Came home and ate leftovers to empty out our fridge before we left and started packing.
Our flight from Las Vegas was at 6 a.m. We decided to get to the airport by 4 a.m. Saturday morning which meant leaving our house at 3:30 a.m. We paid a kid from our ward to come to the airport with us and drive our car home so we wouldn't have to pay or deal with parking. Bracken & I decided we'd just pull an all-nighter so it would be easier to sleep on the airplane since we'd be so tired. I'm not going to do that again. Bracken slept well on the first flight (four hours to Atlanta) but I did not. We got some lunch to eat in Atlanta and then boarded the airplane to Rome. The flight was long but it was nice you could choose your own movies to watch, they had music you could listen to and I slept a little and read. It's amazing you can get halfway across the world in a day while you just sit and enjoy yourself.
Bracken got up to use the lavatory. A lady came out and was not feeling good so Bracken offered his chair (since he was on the aisle right next to the lavatory). They asked if there was a doctor on board over the intercom (just like the movies) and there were quite a few. One knew Spanish and since the lady was Hispanic he was the one that took charge. She had a pain in her abdomen and was having a hard time breathing so they gave her oxygen. After about an hour they moved her to another seat and Bracken could sit next to me again. When we landed everyone waited for the paramedics to come on board and get her before deplaning. She walked off so I think she was ok, I hope so. The man sitting on the other side of me spoke Spanish. I could tell he couldn't figure out his movie screen and I knew there were some movies in Spanish. I didn't want to just grab his remote from him and him think there was a crazy lady sitting next to him so it was nice that Bracken knows Spanish and could help him. At the end of the flight the man carefully wound up the disposable headphones, so tightly and perfectly they looked brand knew. I looked down at my headphones that the earpiece cover had fallen off of and they were a tangled mess. It was a real lesson to me on how I should have taken care of those, even if they were "disposable" because they could have lasted me a lot longer than one flight if I had been careful with them.
We arrived in Rome Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. We hadn't slept the night before and lost a night in the travel so we were tired but excited to be in Rome! We exchanged some money in the airport and headed towards the train station. We got tickets and got on the train headed to Roma Travestere station. We realized we had forgotten to validate our tickets which Bracken had read online that you would get a heavy fine if caught without a validated ticket. We prayed that they wouldn't ask to look at our ticket until after the next station. Thankfully they did not. The next station we had a little trouble finding a place to get tickets since it was Sunday and we weren't sure which train to get on to buy one from the machine. Bracken found a newsstand that was selling them and she told him two. We weren't sure if she meant track two or train two but went with track two. While we were waiting a man came to ask us if it was the train to Civitavecchia. We sue hoped so. He was going on the same cruise as us so he asked around and confirmed that it was. He had been on this cruise before so we followed him from the next train station to the port.
We boarded the ship around noon. Went to the buffet and got some delicious food. Went to our stateroom and took a two hour nap before the pre-departure safety meeting. After the meeting we went back to our room to read before the boat took off and we both fell asleep and slept through dinner. We were feeling bad about just sleeping on the cruise then realize it was our vacation we could do what we wanted and that's what we wanted to do! Bracken ended up waking up at 2 a.m. Monday morning and not able to go back to sleep so he read, exercised and found us breakfast. I slept until 7. It was needed after all the traveling and time changes.
